The word 'Yoga' translates as Yoke or Union.  Yoga is the union of body, mind and spirit. Regular practice of yoga may help to improve the health of the body - bringing increased flexibility, strength and vitality thus helping to both energise and relax the body and mind.  Yoga is suitable for men and women of all ages and ability.

About BKS Iyengar and the Iyengar method

Yogacharya Sri B.K.S. Iyengar was born on December 14, 1918, in Bellur, India.  He has studied and practised yoga continuously for over 70 years and continues to set the standard for his teachers and students while his textbooks on yoga have become classics. He is based at and runs the Ramamani Memorial Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune, India, where his daughter Geeta and son Prashant Iyengar are also directors.

The Iyengar method of teaching guides students through sequences of postures (asana) focusing on alignment of the body and where necessary, using supports or props to assist the student.
